Effective standpipe operations require firefighters to understand standpipe systems as well as understand the tasks that must be completed in ordered to effectively operate from a standpipe system. Operating from a standpipe system differs from stretching a preconnect. How do you connect to a standpipe outlet and what equipment do you use to do so? How do you bundle your hose packs for a standpipe operation and how do you stretch the hoseline once it is connected to the standpipe system? Are you connecting to a standard valve, a pressure restricting device, or a pressure reducing valve and how does the type of valve that you encounter impact your operation? All of these questions will be addressed during this class. This class, through handson skills training will explain the WHY of how to best operate when operating in a standpipe equipped building while also developing the understanding of how to perform the tasks associated with operating in these buildings.
