Irons Ready
Irons Ready
Presented by Brothers in Battle
Calumet City, Illinois
Many say they are the keys to the city, but this is only if you understand how to maximize the designed mechanical advantage, leverage and force of these tools. Once you do, you can problem solve and work through many common fireground forcible entry challenges and know when and how to change things up and think or work outside the box to get the job done.
This class is all about Irons work and it’s so much more than access, it’s addressing the main paths of egress! Upon completion of this course Firefighters will be able to dress and set up their tools for success, perform a rapid size up to identify and defeat multiple forcible entry challenges, perform initial interior size up, account for door control, effectively use commands to enhance communication, develop good striking techniques, and perform the appropriate standardized techniques while working alone or as part of a team.
Seconds do count, we will be able to mask up quickly, make the force and make the grab, NOT EXCUSES!
To effectively mitigate a high stress, unpredictable event, we must be able to communicate to all rescue members our intent and predict each other’s actions based on standardized training and techniques.
SKILLS & TOPICS
● 1 & 2 FF Inward opening doors
● 1 & 2 FF Outward opening doors
● Limited access / dead end hallways
● Bottom of the stairs
● Limited / Zero visibility forcible entry
● Additional leverage / limited Tools
● *Wood Jamb / Baseball Bat swing technique if necessary prop available

Nozzle Forward (MI)
Nozzle Forward - Instructed by Aaron Fields
October 25-26, 2025 | Kalamazoo, MI
Nozzle Forward is an immersive two-day course designed to seamlessly integrate the three essential pillars of engine company operations: fire behavior, hose management, and fire attack.
At the heart of every fire department in the country is the fire hose – the key tool in every firefighting operation. Each fire inevitably involves the deployment of a hose line and the flow of water, and “Nozzle Forward” is crafted specifically for engine company crews to master this crucial task. This is not simply a collection of techniques; it is a flexible, adaptable system for hose-line management and effective fire attack.
The focus of this class is on interior offensive firefighting – an aggressive and proactive approach that we proudly embrace. Aggressive firefighting is not a problem; it is the solution.
The mission of “Nozzle Forward” is to elevate engine companies by enhancing individual proficiency with their tools and expanding their understanding of the fire environment, leading to more efficient, effective operations in the heat of the moment.

Introducing “The Stretch” and “Cruel Intentions”
1-Day Lecture Presentation

“Cruel Intentions”
Fires are growing and extending faster in the modern age than they ever have before. We must ensure that as a nozzleman we can think and act as an independent operator. This class is a deep dive into understanding the goals of the first engine due, how to operate independently on the nozzle, and attack the fire with Cruel Intentions.

Line Boss Leadership and Dirty Dozen
March 20, 2025
The Three C’s of Suppression
Line Boss Leadership: Line Boss Leadership will focus on the mindset of a successful engine company, its staffing of the first line as well as addressing issues that arise on scene. There is no secret that the first line must be successfully placed and that comes with correct engine and crew readiness.
Students will follow Lt McCormack through a series of steps and tricks of the trade to ensure they have the most effective engine company!
Engine Company Errors - “The Dirty Dozen”: This class examines the twelve most common tactical errors made by engine companies on the fireground. These errors have led to firefighter injuries and deaths. Learn how to recognize and avoid making these errors.
The Three C’s of Suppression: This class examines three components of a successful fire attack. Your stream must provide Coverage, Cooling and Contraction. The quicker and the more throughly it occurs the faster we have a knockdown of the fire. This class will examine stream shapes, water mapping and room geometry as they relate to suppression. You have the nozzle and using it correctly along with a knowledge of effective application techniques will give you faster and more complete extinguishments. We will discuss the approach to the fire area along with busting some nozzle myths. Join Ray and get the three C’s on your side.
